Beyoncé 'XO'
Beyoncés 'XO' pop music video is clearly set at Sanata Monica's famous carnival. The introduction to this music video is particulary intrestesting due to it starting out as blue and red flashing soft focuss circular lights. Red conotes danger and blue conotes safty this could suggest to the audience the mixture of emotions your mind gose through when you're in love. We hear a voice over at the being of what sounds as though its a pilot annoucing "flight controler here looking very carefully at the situtation, obviously a major male function" "male function" connotating to the audience that this is a love song. As these lights fade we see a medium shot of Beyoné the main character looking down as she starts to sing she looks up directly to the audience making the music video feel more intimate. The camera cuts to an medium shot showing couples on go carts at night then studdenly shows an establishing shot of the carnival at sunset giving a contrast in lighting. Throughout this music video the camera keeps cuting to flashing lights from the rides rememinding the audience the setting of the music video as well as close ups of young couples kissing portraying a 'young and in love' theme. It is clear that this music video was not shot in an exclusive location as it actually includes beyonce's fans in it. This shows beyonce interacting with them and having fun which connotes to the audience that beyonce is fun and wild just like the carnival.
Lady Gaga 'Poker Face'
Taylor Swift '22'
Lady Gaga's 'Poker Face' is a complete contast to Beyoncé's 'XO' music video even though the genre is the same. An example of this would be that it is set in a modern mallibu styled house to conote glamour and wealth. Although 'XO' contains dance it's uncorigraphed due to it being on a dance mat. However every time Poker Face hits the corus Lady Gaga performs a dance sequence in front of a steam pool this gives the a dramatic effect and makes it more interesting for the audience to watch. Another interesting aspect of this music video is the costumes as they are exremely creative and unique for example at the beggining of the song an extreme close up has been used as she rises out of the pool wearing a mirrowed masK; a tracking shot is then used going down to her body showing a a black lever suit as the water of the pool drips off her to conote a sex appeal.
Taylor Swift's '22' music is fun young and fresh which is appropriate for the title '22'. The costume desighn in the music video is the apposite to poker face giving that it's casual and not glamerous or overlly distracting. At the beggining of the video she is wearing a quote baggy top which says 'Not a lot going on at the moment' connoting the stress free freedom that youths have. He black hat also makes a style statement making her appear to the audience as a style Icon. The chilled and relaxed theme and soft key lighting of a group of girlfriends having fun, connotates a fun, relaxed vibe. We liked the aspect of some clips of the music video appearing to look like a home video. The close up camera angles of Taylor Swifts facial expresions helps her target audience relate to her more as they are humorous. Near to the end of the video Taylor Swift is at what appears to be a hourse party again matching the songs theme of fun a careless.
One Direction 'Night Changes'
Night changes by One Direction gives the impression that their target audience is out on a dream date with them. This allows them to feel apart of the music video completing their fatasty thoughts of having a personal relationship with their favourite members of the group or maybe even all of them. The actions that they do emphasies on this for example, holding hands and looking directly at the camera to connote that they are looking directly towards the audience. In this particular music video each member of the group has their own individual story which ends up not going according to plan in the end having a comical theme of how the "Night Changes" matching the lyrics of the song. The music video is uncoriographed including no dance sequences due to the melody of the music video however is still entertaining due to the chosen locations designed to be seen as stereotypical date nights.
